Concert review: John Mayer at the Sprint Center

There was a point when blues-pop guitarist and singer/songwriter John Mayer was trying to get the crowd to turn it up a notch. He had a call-and-response, Sly and the Family Stone-esque request for everyone to get "higher."
No, this is not referring to the provocative chorus from one of his latest singles asking "who says I can't get stoned," but "higher" is probably a place John Mayer would like to be. High above the controversies his loose lips have caused him in recent months.

John Mayer adds Manila stop to world tour

John Mayer, the hit-making pop artist that gave us “No Such Thing,” “Your Body Is A Wonderland,” “Daughters” and “Waiting On The World To Change,” among others, is making his way to Manila this May.

The Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist’s Facebook account announced the addition of a Philippine show last Friday afternoon (midnight in Manila).

“We are excited to announce shows for the first time ever in the Philippines and Spain! Following a two-night stand in Japan, the Battle Studies World Tour will travel to Manila, Philippines for a concert at SM MOA (Mall Of Asia concert grounds) on May 16th. Ticketing information will be announced as it is available on the Tour page.”

Mayer’s official website already posted the Manila show but a link regarding the May 16 date has yet to reveal details about ticket prices and other relevant information.

Rumors of Mayer’s visit to Manila began as early as February. Twitter was all-abuzz about the still-to-be-confirmed show. Concert industry gossip pegged Channel V and Viva Concerts as the organizers of John Mayer’s show but this as well has yet to be confirmed.

Mayer’s Manila visit, if it pushes through, is one of two exciting shows that are scheduled for May 2010. The other being '80s superstars and British new wave act Tears For Fears, who is said to perform in Manila on May 2.
